Just a few kilometres south of Himara the bay of Panormi is revealed in front of us. A beautiful bay with a small island in the middle and a castle on top of it. The bay of Panormi has been famous since ancient times when it was used as a harbour for sailing and merchant ships.
It has more than 10 small beaches, some of them hidden and accessible only by boat and other revealed is full view from the main road. The large and populated beach is located at the middle of the bay on the way to the castle of Ali Pasha. On the north side visitors can swim next to the unused submarine tunnel that was built during the communist regime. To enjoy the bay of Panormi it is recommended to hire a boat ride and explore every inch of it, you won’t regret it!
There are two restaurants serving seafood and Mediterranean cuisine and no cafes or apartments for rent. Also, no water sports or any other kind of activity, that’s why it is advised to hire a boat or rent a Jet Ski from Himara and visit this place. Also notice that almost all year long its windy here, locals call it Panormitis and it’s a small air current blowing from the small surrounding mountains.
The bay is located 9 kilometers south of Himara and can be accessed by by car, boat or by foot (30 minutes of walking). Follow the national road that leads from the town of Himara towards Qeparo village and the bay of Panormi will revealed to you in a spectacular way. Have fun!
Mos people know this place as Porto Palermo, but very little know that this name was given by the Italian army in First Warld War. Its original name was and still is Panormi as it was given by our ancestors centuries ago.
